Spotlight: The ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship Experience

by Ken Miyamoto on November 25, 2015

"Aspiring screenwriters, take note."The Hollywood Reporter

If you read ScreenCraft's How to Survive the Hollywood Grind, you will likely quickly identify with the trials and tribulations that screenwriters go through on a daily basis.

Beyond the task of coming up with compelling concepts and writing engaging scripts, screenwriters must then deal with rejection as they try and try to get meaningful Hollywood professionals to read their scripts.

Endless email blasts. Awkward cold calls. The uncomfortable mention in casual conversation with people in the industry that yes, you have a script that you'd like them to read.

The ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship has proven to be one of the greatest opportunities for screenwriters to circumvent the email blasts, cold calls, and awkward networking attempts.

The 3rd annual ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship, presented by Final Draft, is designed to advance the careers of up to four emerging screenwriters every year. Each fellow will receive a $1,000 writing grant and an all-expenses paid trip to Los Angeles for several days, where they will receive one-on-one screenplay development from industry insiders.

While the cash and the trip is amazing enough, it's the access that will make the most impact.

“You put me in front of more people in one day than I’ve been able to meet in 12 years.”

- ScreenCraft Fellow Jeffrey Field

Winners will spend the week in back-to-back meetings with top studios, production companies, managers and agents.

Earlier this year, the Fellowship recipients discussed their projects at Treehouse Pictures, MGM, NBC Universal, Paramount, Buffalo 8 and The Combine. They also met with Zero Gravity Management, Madhouse Entertainment, Paradigm Talent Agency, 3Arts Entertainment, Benderspink, Kaplan/Perrone and Capital Creations.

Below are some photos from the ScreenCraft Fellowship winners week of meetings in Los Angeles last spring:

Needless to say, the ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship can truly make an impact any screenwriter's life.

Past ScreenCraft Fellowship winners have optioned their projects and signed with top representatives at 3Arts, Anonymous Content, Paradigm Talent Agency, ICM, Bellevue Productions and more.

While prize money and even phone calls and email exchanges with the powers that be in Hollywood are great, imagine being able to make the trip to Los Angeles, visit studio lots, have lunch with major screenwriters and producers, and meet directly with those coveted agents and managers.

The ScreenCraft Screenwriting Fellowship experience is truly one of the most unique opportunities a screenwriter will have.

The next deadline is fast approaching — Friday, December 30th
