Peter Ackerman to Adapt ‘Things You Shouldn’t Say Past Midnight’ for DirecTV

by ScreenCraft Staff on April 1, 2014

DirecTV has picked up 10 episodes of the original comedy “Things You Shouldn't Say Past Midnight.” The comedy is based a play of the same name by Peter Ackerman, who will adapt the story for television and executive produce.

Nick Hamm will also executive produce. He told The Hollywood Reporter, “Ackerman has a unique comedic vision and on 'Things You Shouldn’t Say Past Midnight' he's created a fabulous world of distinct characters and hilarious situations."

The show is set in L.A. and explores a variety of modern-day relationships through the lens that nothing good happens after midnight.

"As DirecTV continues to bolster the slate of original programming on Audience Network, we are thrilled to present 'Things You Shouldn’t Say Past Midnight' as our first foray into comedy,” said DirecTV senior vice president of original content and production Chris Long to The Hollywood Reporter. "We have always placed a high premium on working with talented, prolific writers like Peter Ackerman, who challenge us to raise the bar creatively."

Ackerman co-wrote the screenplays for animated features "Ice Age" and "Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs." He also provided a couple of voiceovers for characters in both movies.

"Television these days feels like the Wild West, with new players arriving all the time to stake their claim and create their own programming in fresh, new ways," Ackerman said to The Hollywood Reporter. "Momentum TV and DirecTV are at the forefront of this landscape and I couldn't be more proud to participate."
