We are excited to announce the winners of the 2020 ScreenCraft Drama Screenplay Competition.
Undertaken by Jamie Severson has been selected from nearly 3100 entries as the Grand Prize Winner. Keriah by Renee Rothstein has been selected as the Feature Winner; Heavy by Collette Legault has been selected as the TV Pilot Winner and Bugbear by Thomas Krygier has been selected as the Short Story Winner.
Undertaken, is a feature, about an eccentric matriarch of a 1960's family-run funeral home, who is on the brink of financial collapse, and resorts to violent and unscrupulous methods to keep the family business afloat.
Keriah, is a feature, where the bombing death of the secretly secular daughter of an ultra-Orthodox Jewish father tests his conscience and that of a country when it is revealed that she is an organ donor and her kidney is to go to the terminally ill son of a politician accused of treason and forces converge to stop the procedure.
Set in the 1970s, in a working-class Connecticut neighborhood, Heavy is a pilot based on the true story of a five-hundred-pound black man who becomes the de facto father of two white boys, guiding them through the throes of racism, addiction, and poverty, when their racist, drug-addicted mother winds up in the hospital.
Bugbear is a short story about a dangerous fugitive, trying to escape a large manhunt, hides in the car trunk of a father and daughter, who turn out to be a child kidnapper and his victim. The fugitive chooses self-sacrifice over freedom to save the girl.
In addition to the ScreenCraft team, this year's jury included executives from Searchlight Pictures, Hello Sunshine, NBC Universal Television, Annapurna Pictures, and the Academy Award-Winning Screenwriter of Blackkklansman.
