2019 ScreenCraft Comedy Screenplay Contest Winners Announced

by ScreenCraft on August 14, 2019

Finding Cumberbatch by Ivan Tsang has been selected as the grand prize winner of the 2019 ScreenCraft Comedy Screenplay competition. Impressing judges with its creative original premise and cutting dialogue, it follows the story of Eryn Soo, Benedict Cumberbatch’s biggest fan. After she destroys his wax figure at Madame Tussauds wax museum, she wakes up in a world where Benedict's career has vanished, and he's just another struggling actor in LA.

White Lie Wedding by Whitney Powell has been selected as the runner-up. When a pessimistic divorced woman learns that her ex is remarrying, she spitefully blurts out that she is getting married again too... in just six weeks time. She must plan the wedding of her dreams while looking for the perfect groom. The judges found the believable characters helped with the strong execution of an intriguing set up.

Win Streak by Chaco Daniel has been selected as the winner of the concept category. After a luckless guy makes a half-court shot at an NBA game, his life completely transformed. But his lucky streak seems to be creating disastrous consequences for the people around him.

In addition to the ScreenCraft team, the jury this year included a producer from Bradley Cooper & Todd Phillip's Joint Effort, executives from Ben Stiller's Red Hour Films and Adam Sandler's Happy Madison Productions, and a literary coordinator from Artists First Management.

Grand prize winner, Ivan Tsang, will receive a $1,000 cash prize and hand-picked industry consultations and introductions, while Whitney Powell will receive $500 and will have her script circulated and recommended to ScreenCraft’s network of over 60 managers, agents, producers and development executives. Chaco Daniel will receive a $500 cash prize and an exclusive mentorship from jury-member Joseph Garner to develop the project.

The following projects have also been selected to receive special mention:

Cold Feat Trent Tackbary
Covfefe David Gero & Tahir Jon
Chassie Loves Satan KK Wootton & Ben Fasching-Gray
Mother of the Bride Tyler Kempf & Lauren McCarthy
