2021 ScreenCraft Drama Competition Winners

We are excited to announce the winners of the 2021 ScreenCraft Drama Competition. These exceptional screenplays were selected by our industry jury from almost 2,000 original submissions. Congratulations to these writers:

Grand Prize Winner

THE 84 written by Sonja Perryman

Logline: 1968. South Central Los Angeles. Fourteen-year-old Shay takes the #84 bus every day across town to Catholic school. One day, she spots a mysterious man on there with the same unmistakable fiery red hair as her. She knows in her bones it's her long-lost father and Shay sets off on a mission to find him. In the process, she faces truths about herself and her family that will prove to be transformational.

Feature Winner

THIRD MAN written by Michael Ouzas

Logline: WWI, France: after a young English soldier falls in love with the German prisoner he's tasked with interrogating, he must choose between his heart and saving the lives of thousands of his countrymen.

TV Winner

NICE RESTAURANT written by Dorothy Nguyen

Logline: When Liu Fang is smuggled into the US, she finds out that she’s put in charge of a restaurant front and she needs to bend to the wishes of the Triads while trying to run a successful restaurant or else they’ll kill her and her brother.

In addition to the ScreenCraft team, this year's jury included managers and executives from HBOMax, Apple TV+, and Color Force as well as TV Writer Eric Haywood and Academy Award-nominated writer Sacha Ben Harroche.
