Announcing The Winter 2016 Short Film Production Fund Recipient!

Leading development consultancy and screenplay discovery platform ScreenCraft and Beverly Hills-based media financier Bondit have announced The Sand That Ate The Sea, written and to be directed by Matthew Thorne, as the recipient of the Winter 2016 Short Film Production Fund. Highly cinematic and emotional, the project is a father-son saga set in the salt flats of Australia that simultaneously tells two stories set 35 years apart.

Thorne is represented by Collider Films in Australia and was formerly a full-time in-house director at JWT Sydney. His first short film “Where Do Lilacs Come From” won a Gold Young Directors Award at Cannes Lions in 2014, and his first commercial won a Bronze Lion in 2016. Currently in postproduction on his first documentary, Thorne's photography has been internationally exhibited.

The Short Film Production Fund is administered biannually in amounts up to $30,000 to talented filmmakers for short film and online series that display originality, vision & exceptional development potential. Additionally, ScreenCraft pledges ongoing creative development and BondIt and Buffalo 8 Productions pledge production guidance and resources.

Previous grant recipients include filmmakers Natasja Fourie, Tom Botchii & Sam Kozel and Dani Bailes and Alexis Korycinski, Danny Madden, and Chris Osborn.

The deadline for the current quarter of the Short Film Production Fund is June 30th, 2017.
