'Crazy Ex-Girlfriend' Co-Creator's Creative Spark

In celebration of Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's recent third-season renewal, we're revisiting co-creator Aline Brosh McKenna's Creative Spark video.

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend was created by McKenna and Rachel Bloom, who also stars in the lead role as a neurotic New York lawyer who uproots her life to move across the country in pursuit of a long-lost childhood boyfriend. Each episode contains original songs and choreography, making the show a rare modern-day musical.

Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus reads, "Crazy Ex-Girlfriend remains delightfully weird, engaging, and even more courageous and confident in its sophomore outing." Love it or hate it, the series has undeniably changed the landscape of TV in its short time on air.

In this Creative Spark video (produced by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences), McKenna describes goal-setting to organize her workday, as well as her perspective on how ideas are "birthed" (her word) and developed from there.
