'Tinder: The Movie' Trailer Spoofs 'The Social Network'

by ScreenCraft Staff on October 21, 2013

Fake trailer of the day!  Tinder, a popular dating and hookup app, has made its "movie debut" in the fake trailer for Tinder: The Movie. The concept is a spoof of the 2010 movie The Social Network, which was directed by David Fincher and written by Aaron Sorkin.

Right down to the music, the similarity between the trailers for both films is spot on. Tinder: The Movie trailer tells the story of a man who creates the Tinder app to meet girls, a play on Facebook founder Zuckerberg's life in college.
Watch the fake trailer here:

Tinder has become the most popular new dating app this year. Users swipe through photos of potential matches on their phones; swipe right if you like what you see and left if you don’t. If and only if two people choose "yes" on each other, they will be notified of the match.

The trailer spoofing this trend is on par with wider trend in amateur filmmaking today -- using timely and trendy topics to generate viral videos that serves to generate awareness of the filmmakers' talent. Bad Weather Films, the production company behind the fake Tinder movie trailer, has effectively used this strategy.  To date, the video has nearly 130k views.  The group has created other fun pieces poking fun at pop culture topics, all available on YouTube.
