Danny Boyle has confirmed that his next film after his upcoming Steve Jobs biopic will be a long-awaited sequel to his seminal 1996 film Trainspotting.
He told Deadline:
"All the four main actors want to come back and do it. Now it is only a matter of getting all their schedules together, which is complicated by two of them doing American TV series."
He is referring to Ewan McGregor, Jonny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, and Kevin McKidd. Miller is the lead in CBS' Elementary while McKidd is a regular on ABC's Grey's Anatomy.
John Hodge, who wrote the original, has already written the script for the sequel, which tells the take of the characters reuniting, only this time centered around the porn industry. Boyle recently stated that the script is "terrific."
The original told the story of Renton, deeply immersed in the Edinburgh drug scene, as he tries to clean up and get out, despite the allure of the drugs and influence of friends. The script was nominated for an Oscar and the film was one of the premiere pickups of Miramax back in those early days of the mid-1990s when independent cinema was taking the industry by storm.
