Kurtzman, Orci And Pinkner Trio Return To Write Third Spider Man Film

by ScreenCraft Staff on October 4, 2013

Alex Kurtzman, Roberto Orci and Jeff Pinkner, the writing team behind "The Amazing Spider Man 2," are joining together again to script the third installment of the Spider Man film series, "The Amazing Spider Man 3." The three have signed a deal with Sony Pictures.

The second Spider Man movie is currently in the postproduction phase and is due out next year in the beginning of May. Sony seems pretty confident that the third and fourth films will reach full production, as the company has already set release dates of June 10, 2016 and May 4, 2018, respectively.

According to an article published by The Hollywood Reporter, Kurtzman, Orci and Pinkner are expected to receive both story by and screenplay by credit for the third film. The original screenplay for the first film, "The Amazing Spider Man," was penned by James Vanderbilt, who also wrote an early draft of "The Amazing Spider Man 2" before the trio took over to complete it.

In addition to the Kurtzman, Orci and Pinker team, many of the same people who contributed toward the Spider Man film success are returning for the third film. Andrew Garfield is expected to return as Peter Parker. Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are returning as producers, and current talk is that Marc Webb, the director for the first two Spider Man films, will also return to direct the third.

This is good news for Spider Man fans, as it's typically preferred for the same creators to stick with the same story that spans multiple films and media. The next few years look positive for one of America's favorite superheroes and successful franchise.

Yesterday, the Hollywood Reporter covered the story, quoting the vice chairman of Sony: “Spider-Man is our most important, most successful, and most beloved franchise," said Sony Pictures vice chairman Jeff Blake, "so we’re thrilled that we are in a position to lock in these prime release dates over the next five years.”
