Denis Leary to Write 'Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll' Comedy Pilot for FX
FX has given the green light to a new comedy pilot called Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll. Denis Leary will write and star in the pilot.
"Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll is a terrific script and concept with Denis Leary's signature brand of comedy," FX president of original programming Eric Schrier said in a release announcing the news Tuesday, as quoted by The Hollywood Reporter. "Denis is a tremendous talent who played a major role in the growth of our network with Rescue Me, which was one of the most groundbreaking series of the last decade. We're thrilled to have him back home at FX."
The show centers on Leary's character Johnny Rock, a middle-aged rock n'roll lover whose goal is to become rich and famous. He was once a very talented lead singer of a New York early 1990s band called The Heathens, who were loved by critics and fans. But due to his drug and alcohol problems and sleeping with his bandmates' lovers, the band broke up on the same day their only record was released. The show takes place 25 years later, where a broke Johnny tries to get the band back together again.
The show will be filmed on location in New York City this Spring, and FX said the project will feature original music and occasional guest appearances by rock stars.
Leary executive produced, wrote and starred in the TV series Rescue Me.
