David Magee To Write New 'Chronicles Of Narnia' Movie
Last month, the Mark Gordon Company and the C.S. Lewis Company agreed upon a deal to jointly develop and produce the fourth movie in The Chronicles of Narnia film series, called The Chronicles of Narnia: The Silver Chair. Now, Life of Pi writer David Magee has signed on to write the fourth film.
"I have always loved The Chronicles of Narnia, and I endlessly imagined myself finding my own passage into Narnia someday," Magee said, as quoted in The Hollywood Reporter. "All these years later, I'm getting to fulfill that wish just a little bit by writing the film adaptation of The Silver Chair and could not be more excited about it."
Magee wrote the screenplay for the films Life of Pi, Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day and Finding Neverland. He was nominated for an Oscar for best adapted screenplay for Life of Pi. He also received an Oscar nomination for Finding Neverland.
So far, The Chronicles of Narnia films have grossed $1.6 billion worldwide. The story began with the novel series written by C.S. Lewis. The first book, The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe, was published in 1950.
The last film in the franchise, The Voyage Of The Dawn Treader, was released by Fox in 2010. The first two Narnia films were produced and released by Disney, starting with The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe in 2005, then Prince Caspian in 2008. According to Variety, the first film in the Narnia series was a "surprise success" with $745 million in worldwide box office.
