News: Classic Nickelodeon Toons Headed to the Big Screen

by Ken Miyamoto on September 7, 2015

Paramount Pictures is developing an epic Nicktoons movie, bringing together various 1990s cartoons like Rugrats, Angry Beavers, Hey Arnold!, Rocko’s Modern Life, Ren & Stimpy, and possibly more.

The concept would be a movie that crosses over these many characters, much like has been accomplished with The LEGO Movie or Marvel's The Avengers. Paramount is actively trying to secure the rights to each of the shows they wish to include in the crossover movie.

Mary Parent and Cale Boyter's Disruption Entertainment will produce the film with screenwriters currently being sought. Parent has a proven track record with adapting Nickelodeon cartoons into successful features, having produced this year’s Spongebob Movie: Sponge Out of Water. Nickelodeon Movies, which is a subsidiary of Paramount, is also producing, while Elizabeth Raposo will oversee for the studio.

ScreenCraft previously reported the possible big screen adaptations of Nintendo's iconic characters. It looks as if iconic characters of the '80s and '90s are making a comeback.
