Christian Bale is reuniting with his Public Enemies director Michael Mann to play Italian car magnate Enzo Ferrari. Mann's long-awaited biopic doesn't have a title or studio as of yet, but hopes to start shooting next summer.
The project is based on Brock Yates' 1991 book Enzo Ferrari: The Man, the Cars, the Races. Ferrari himself redefined the high-powered Italian sports car and almost single-handedly created Formula One racing. The film takes place in 1957, a year where passion, failure, success, death, and life all collided.
Mann has combined two scripts, one by Troy Kennedy Martin (The Italian Job) and another by David Rayfield (Out of Africa). He has been developing the project for more than fifteen years.
