Amazon Studios Takes In 'Barbarella' TV Project

by ScreenCraft Staff on January 21, 2014

Yesterday, Deadline Hollywood announced that Gaumont International Televison’s Barbarella has been set up at Amazon Studios.

The Gaumont International TV series Barbarella is based on the character created by Jean-Claude Forest in a graphic novel. The story was made famous in the 1968 film Barbarella, starring Jane Fonda.

Amazon Studios took in the pilot script written by Neal Purvis and Robert Wade. Last year, it was announced that Purvis and Wade came on board to pen the script. The pair co-wrote five James Bond movies, including the most recent, Skyfall.

The Barbarella project has been in the works at GIT for about a year and a half. Nicolas Refn will direct and executive produce, and Martha De Laurentis will also serve as executive producer.

According to Deadline, “Amazon Studios has five drama and comedy pilots in the works following the launch of its first original series, comedies Alpha House and Betas.”

In other recent news, Chrostopher Nolan received the inaugural Slamdance Founder’s Award this past weekend in Park City, Utah.

“Throughout his incredible successes, Christopher Nolan has stood firmly behind the Slamdance filmmaking community. We are honored to present him with Slamdance’s inaugural Founder’s Award,” stated Peter Baxter, Slamdance President and Co-Founder, in a press release.
