News: NBC Retires "Coach" Early

by Ken Miyamoto on September 1, 2015

Craig T. Nelson's return to his Coach role was announced last April, with NBC ordering a full thirteen episodes of the series, which would tell the story of Coach's son asking his retired father (Nelson) back to the field to help him coach his team. However, NBC has now officially dropped the show.

Rumors were abound that there were creative issues on the project, which filmed only a pilot episode with original star Craig T. Nelson toplining and the script written by the original series creator Barry Kemp.

Studio response to the pilot was mixed. While Nelson will retain his full pay for all thirteen episodes (twelve of which were never shot), the rest of the cast and crew will only receive their contract pay for the single pilot episode.

However, Universal TV, which produced the show, will be shopping it to other networks and entities. Look no further than Netflix's upcoming Full House reboot for an example of the many places this show could end up.
