Jeff always delivers fascinating, in-depth interviews, and ScreenCraft is a proud sponsor of The Q&A Podcast during this Awards season. Here, the film's stars, Keir Dullea (Dr. Dave Bowman) and Gary Lockwood (Dr. Frank Poole), reveal how they came to the project, entertain with anecdotes from their time behind the scenes with the legendary Stanley Kubrick, and share little-known details about this iconic film.

2001-2

2001: A Space Odyssey is an epic sci-fi film that is noted for its scientifically accurate depiction of space flight, its pioneering special effects, and its ambiguous imagery.

The screenplay, co-written by Kubrick and Arthur C. Clarke, was partially inspired by Clarke's short story "The Sentinel". Clarke concurrently wrote the novel 2001: A Space Odyssey, which was published soon after the film was released.

Despite initially receiving mixed reactions from critics and audiences, 2001: A Space Odyssey garnered a cult following and slowly became the highest-grossing North American film of 1968. It was nominated for four Academy Awards.

In 1991, 2001: A Space Odyssey was deemed "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant" by the United States Library of Congress and selected for preservation in the National Film Registry. Today the film is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most influential films ever made. Filmmakers including Steven Spielberg, George Lucas, and Ridley Scott credit the film as a source of inspiration for their own work.

The interview is well worth a listen, for fans of the movie and cinema history, and for aspiring filmmakers everywhere. Enjoy!
