Man of Steel scribe David S. Goyer’s Krypton pilot — the origin story of Superman — is reportedly nearing a pilot order at SyFy.

Damian Kindler (Sleepy Hollow, Stargate SG-1) serves as executive producer and showrunner on the project which takes place years before the Superman legend that comics, television, and movies have told.

The main character is Kal-El’s grandfather who brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest superhero ever known.

Colm McCarthy (Peaky Blinders, Sherlock) will direct from a script by Ian Goldberg. The story was conceived by both Goyer and Goldberg.

Goyer is a longtime comics fan and has written some of the biggest comic book movies in the genre, including The Dark Knight trilogy and the recent Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.
