
Galaxy Quest, which has garnered an especially loyal following since its 1999 feature debut, is being developed into a TV series for Amazon Studios.
Tim Allen, Sigourney Weaver, Sam Rockwell, and Alan Rickman starred in the original film which followed the cast of a Star Trek-style TV series that became washed up has beens. An alien race, who saw the show and mistook it for being a documentary, captures them and enlists their help in fighting a race of alien warriors.
Robert Gordon, one of the film's original writers, will pen the pilot. Even the original's director, Dean Parisot, will direct. The two will also Executive Produce, along with the feature film's original producers.
The film has not been cast yet and Amazon has not yet greenlit a whole season, rather, they will wait and see how the pilot turns out.
With the likes of feature films Rush Hour, Limitless, and Minority Report turning into television series, among many others, it seems we have a new hot trend in our midst.
