2010's A Nightmare on Elm Street remake showed promise after casting Oscar-nominee Jackie Earle Haley, however, the movie was critically lambasted, failed at the box office, and hardcore Freddy fans weren't that happy either.
New Line Cinema, whose nickname is "The house that Freddy built," pertaining to the fact that the franchise put the production company on the map years ago, has decided to once again reboot/remake the franchise, ignoring the 2010 installment.
Orphan scribe David Leslie Johnson has been tapped to script. Toby Emmerich,Walter Hamada, and Dave Neustadter will oversee for New Line.
Johnson, who was recently attached to write Warner Bros. Dungeons And Dragons adaptation, is also writing James Wan’s Conjuring sequel The Conjuring: The Enfield Poltergeist and Disney’s horror Something Wicked This Way Comes.
This follows a resurgence of iconic horror properties as new reboots/remakes of the Halloween, Friday the 13th, and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchises are in full swing.
