TBS Picks Up Untitled Comedy from David Kohan and Max Mutchnick

by ScreenCraft Staff on March 4, 2014

TBS has picked up an untitled, multi-camera comedy pilot (formerly known as "Clipsters") from the creators of Will & Grace.

David Kohan and Max Mutchnick penned the script and will executive produce the multicamera comedy through their KoMut Entertainment company for Warner Horizon.

The comedy focuses on a group of kids who ran in different circles in high school, but now all work together at a local Charlestown, Mass., barber shop called Buzzy's. “Their dreams may lie across the Charles River in Boston, but for now, their work, their lives, their loves and their worries remain in the town they grew up in,” wrote The Hollywood Reporter.

This project marks Kohan and Mutchnick’s latest venture together. Aside from creating "Will & Grace," the duo has written and produced numerous TV series, including "Partners," "Four Kings,"  "$#*! My Dad Says," "Good Morning Miami" and "Boston Common." The duo won a Primetime Emmy in 2000 for Outstanding Comedy Series for "Will & Grace." Their work writing and producing "Will & Grace" earned them several other award nominations from the PGA Awards and the Primetime Emmys in the early 2000s.

According to Deadline, Kohan and Mutchnick's project was set up at TBS a year ago, stemming from a meeting they had with the network’s programming chief, Michael Wright. They also have an Upstairs/Downstairs dark comedy currently in development at Showtime.

In other recent news, Discovery Communications has acquired London-based independent producer Raw, which is the company behind the Discovery Channel hit show “Gold Rush,” creates scripted programming. Raw also produced “Locked Up Abroad” for National Geographic and “Paranormal Witness” for NBCUniversal’s SyFy. The deal calls for Raw to expand into scripted programming and push further into high-quality independent films. Check out the ScreenCraft post about the news.
