News: George Washington Spec Script Garnering A-List Attention

by Ken Miyamoto on September 15, 2015

There is hope for novice screenwriters after all.

Screenwriter Michael Russell Gunn’s revolutionary spec script The Virginian, which happens to be his first spec — though he recently worked as an executive story editor and writer on ABC’s mystery drama series The Whispers — is garnering major attention from some A-list talent. Michael Fassbender, Henry Cavill, and Charlie Hunnam are circling the historical action/drama.

The spec, pitched as having the same tone as Braveheart and The Patriot, tells the story of the life of George Washington, a complicated man who would rise to become the first President of the United States.

The Virginian is currently being packaged by Paradigm’s David Boxerbaum and Adrian Garcia, along with Principato-Young Entertainment’s David Gardner. Fox, Universal, Paramount, Sony, and Warner Brothers are interested.
