News: Lionsgate To Produce "The Odyssey" Adaptation

by Ken Miyamoto on August 20, 2015

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay scribe Peter Craig has written a new film adaptation of Homer's The Odyssey for Lionsgate, which Hugh Jackman is in early discussions to star.

Director Francis Lawrence, who collaborated with Craig on Mockingjay, will direct with The Hunger Games producer Nina Jacobson producing.

A follow-up of sorts to "The Iliad," the classic 8th century B.C. tale centers on Odysseus and his legendary journey home after the fall of Troy. During the many years it takes, his wife Penelope fights off suitors.

Lionsgate has yet to set a release date for the film.

The Odyssey contains some of the greatest examples of character archetypes detailed by the writings of Joseph Campbell and many others, for which ScreenCraft also explored in Archetypes: To Use or Not to Use.
