2020 ScreenCraft Stage Play Writing Competition Winners

by ScreenCraft on December 9, 2020

We are excited to announce the winners of the 2020 ScreenCraft Stage Play Writing Competition.

Lifeline by Robert Axelrod has been selected from nearly 1000 entries as the Grand Prize Winner. Tulips From Theodore by Georgia Merdinger has been selected as a runner-up.

In Lifeline, after the death of her gay teenage son, a mother begins working through her grief by volunteering at a suicide hotline.

In Tulips From Theodore, when recently widowed, cynical Linda and ditzy Louise meet at a gravestone, they realize they shared the same husband at the same time. They must navigate their new complicated life together, and reveal the truth to their daughters. Tulips From Theodore is a dark comedy, exploring friendship, mother-daughter relationships, and that life isn't all flowers and butterflies.

In addition to the ScreenCraft team, this year's jury included judges from IAMA Theatre Company, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwrights, and Tony-nominated Director and choreographer, Dan Knechtges.

Congratulations to these winning writers and finalists, and thank you to our judges and to everyone who submitted projects; we read a number of remarkable submissions.
