News: Akiva Goldsman to Adapt Stephen King's "Doctor Sleep"

by Ken Miyamoto on April 2, 2016

Akiva Goldsman (I Am Legend, The DaVinci Code, A Beautiful Mind, etc.) is close to officially signing on to adapt Stephen King's Doctor Sleep, the sequel to King's 1977 horror classic The Shining.

The book is set years after the events at the Overlook Hotel with a now middle aged Danny Torrance still traumatized and — like his dad (played by Jack Nicholson in The Shining) — has issues with anger management and alcoholism.

Settling in a small town in New Hampshire, his psychic abilities start to resurface and he develops a link with a 12-year-old girl whom he must save after he discovers her life is being threatened by a tribe of paranormals led by a man named Rose the Hat.

Goldsman has penned the early drafts of the first film adaptation of King's The Dark Tower series which Matthew McConaughey and Idris Elba are set to star in and will begin shooting shortly. No release date has been set.
