Grand Prize Winner
ALL OF ME written by Laura Winters
Equal parts hilarious coming-of-age story and a brutal dissection of disability and class. The story follows potential couple Lucy and Alfonso who have a lot in common: they both love jazz, hate astrology, and are quadriplegics who use text-to-speech technology to speak. Yet their mothers only see differences. Since Lucy’s mom doesn't want her to date, period, and Alfonso's mom writes off any girl who isn't a Spanish-speaking PhD candidate, Lucy must resort to desperate measures to assert her independence.
REAP THE GROVE written by Caity-Shea Violette
A tender and darkly funny exploration of partnership, intergenerational trauma, and the anticipated grief of death with dignity. REAP THE GROVE chronicles estranged sisters who reunite when their mother decides to end her terminal illness on her own terms.
In addition to the ScreenCraft team, this year's jury included Tony Award-winning playwright and Academy-Award nominated screenwriter, Jeffrey Whitty, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Donald Margulies, CAA theatre agent Olivier Sultan, playwright Tim J. Lord, and Elena Araoz - professor and director of theater, opera and virtual performance.
Congratulations again to these winning writers, and thank you to our jury. If you’d like to receive a notification when this contest re-opens for entries, you can subscribe for updates via Coverfly here.
