Today we’re excited to announce our partnership with Orb Media Group again for the 2nd annual China–Hollywood Screenwriting Fellowship!
The grand prize winner of this 2018 China–Hollywood Fellowship will receive a WGA-scale option offer from Orb Media Group (up to $13,000+ depending on the budget scale of the feature film screenplay), plus a trip to the Shanghai Film Festival for meetings and mentorship.
Last year’s winner optioned his screenplay and it is slated for production in late 2018!
Last year’s winners also joined us at the Shanghai Film Festival in June 2017 where ScreenCraft hosted a panel with filmmakers James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy), Max Borenstein (Kong: Skull Island, Godzilla) and Peter Chan (American Dreams in China), as reported by Variety:
China has the world’s largest population and the demand for high-quality films is growing dramatically. Hollywood is the heart of the world’s entertainment industry and has been creating and exporting American cinema to the entire world for almost a century. This contest seeks to bridge cultures and identify worthy screenplays (in English or Chinese) that are uniquely appealing to both Chinese audiences and English-speaking audiences worldwide.
While a very wide variety of screenplays will be considered eligible for this program, we recommend that writers research cultural and political sensitivities in China. And please read this blog post carefully for a quick primer on the film industry in China: Writing Movies for the Biggest Box Office in the World: China
Any genre will be considered for this program. Historically, the following genres have performed well in China: action, action-comedy, animated family-friendly, adventure, thriller, sci-fi, fantasy, romantic drama and romantic comedy.
Accepting entries in both English and Chinese.
