ScreenCraft is excited to congratulate ScreenCraft winner John J. Griffin on his recent spec script sale. The script, entitled Crater, has found a new home at 20th Century Fox with Shawn Levy currently in negotiations to direct. Levy is also set to produce the film alongside 21 Laps Entertainment’s Dan Levine.
Griffin participated as a winner with a full scholarship to the 2015 ScreenCraft Screenwriters Residency Program in The Bahamas where he developed Crater alongside industry mentors during a series of rigorous one-on-one meetings and feedback sessions.
The script, which takes place on a lunar colony, tells the story of a bereaved young boy and his friends as they take a journey to explore a mysterious crater before being relocated to another planet.
Described as a coming-of-age tale along the lines of Stand By Me meets the The Martian, Crater marks Griffin’s first script sale to a major studio. The screenplay, originally concieved alongside VFX veteran Rpin Suwannath, topped Tracking Board’s 2015 Hit list and placed at number 5 on the 2015 Black List.
Based on its success, the script eventually found its way in front of Levy and 21 Laps, who swiftly came on board to develop and pitch the project for officials at Fox.
