News: Imperative Entertainment Wins "Killers" Bidding War with $5 Million

by Ken Miyamoto - updated on January 20, 2022

David Grann’s novel Killers of the Flower Moon triggered the fiercest bidding war of the year thus far. George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Brett Ratner and Star Wars producer Kathleen Kennedy were just a few of the names bidding for this property before names like Bruckheimer, De Luca and JJ Abrams jumped into the mix as this massive deal was brokered by CAA.

Imperative Entertainment has now won the war for Killers of the Flower Moon with a massive $5 million dollar bid. They beat out a bid put together by JJ Abrams and his Bad Robot shingle with Steve Golin and Anonymous Content, with Leonardo DiCaprio attached to star.

Imperative is headed up by Heroes creator Tim Kring, Bradley Thomas and Zak Kadison with financial backing from Dan Friedkin. The company brands itself as a next generation entertainment studio focusing on the development, production, and financing of original & branded entertainment across all media. Their current projects in development include Arabian Nights with Universal and Imagine and the adaptation of the Paula McLain novel Circling the Sun.

The book will be published in the fall by Doubleday/Penguin Random House. It is a nonfiction story set in the 1920s, when the richest people per capita in the world were Oklahoma’s Osage Indians. Oil had been discovered beneath their land and they were granted rights that provided a percentage of the revenues pouring in from oil companies. Then, mysteriously, they began to be killed off. Many who dared to investigate the killings met a similar fate. In desperation, the Osage turned to the newly created Bureau of Investigation, becoming the FBI’s first major homicide case. Yet corruption from oil money permeated even the FBI and the White House.
